Re: Re: Mets Minor League Report 4-25-08

Thank you. Please use your name in the comments, I think it works better. Niese's start is for real: check the peripherals. 25.1 IP, 19 H, 9 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 7 BB, 22 K, GB/FB: 1.12. Of particular interest is that he's allowed fewer than one hit per inning, one homer in 25 and a K/BB above 3 while striking out nearly a batter an inning. He's challenging hitters, but they're not making great contact. Compare and contrast that with Bostick: 30.1 IP, 23 H, 10R, 10 ER, 2HR, 13 BB, 17 K GB/FB: .90. Bostick is an extreme flyball pitcher who has walked almost as many as he has struck out, while not missing all that many bats. He's pitching in just about the friendliest ballpark for pitchers in the PCL. In other parks in the PCL or MLB, some of those flyballs would be homers or at least extra base hits. As a Mets fan, be very excited about the starts of Carp, Murphy, Evans, and to a lesser degree Lucas Duda. I'm planning to do a breakdown of the three guys at double-A this weekend, so will have more on that subject shortly. In the meantime, I'd welcome other's opinions, particularly if you've seen a game this year.
