Re: Mets Minor League Report 8-1-2006

Dude, relax a second. I liked Nady well enough, but homeboy's not exactly Hank Aaron. He's 27, so this is pretty much his peak season. His VORP may be higher than that of Hernandez, but one of his main replacements, Chavez, has a higher WARP, and will see more playing time. And getting Milledge low-pressure at bats can't be a bad thing. Not to mention that the Lasty Millez platoon will provide far better defense in right. Meanwhile, Bert should do an adequate job of getting the game to Wagner. And seriously, how can you not like getting a 25 year old lefty who two years ago was one of the best young pitchers in the game? No, Perez almost certainly won't help this year--though I think he could actually be nasty out of the pen. But two years ago he was a better pitcher than Kazmir is now, and he's the same age. He's a lottery ticket to be sure, but the upside is tremendous. And Xavier Nady was the 8th best hitter on the team, with a perfectly servicable replacement waiting in the wings. If the Mets lose in October, it's not going to be the absence of Xavier Nady that causes it.
