I thought Pedro looked even better than a Mets fan could reasonably have hoped on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, down in Georgia, the Gnats went deep five times in the first inning.

Stars of the Day:

AAA: Chris Aguila/Willie Collazo & Brandon Knight

AA: Mike Carp & Ambiorix Concepcion

A+: Emary Frederick/J.R. Voyles

A: Greg Veloz & Michael Parker & Jared Abruzzo & Francisco Pena & Matt Bouchard

New Orleans (AAA – Pacific Coast League)

New Orleans Zephyrs (29-30, -2.0) 3, @ Round Rock Express (25-34) 2

The Zs did all of their damage in a three-run first on their way to their first road series win of 2008.  The first three batters in the order, SS Anderson Hernandez, 2B Argenis Reyes and LF Chris Aguila all reached and scored to start the game.  Aguila (.302/.383/.568) didn’t homer for the first time in five games, but extended his hitting streak to eight games and threw out a runner at the plate in the eighth inning to preserve the tie.

Willie Collazo (3-2, 2.88) started and gave up two runs on four hits to earn his third win of the year.  He struck out three and walked two.  Brandon Knight, the newcomer from independent ball, recorded the final four outs with two strikeouts for his first save of the year in his second New Orleans appearance.

Binghamton (AA - Eastern League)

@ Harrisburg Senators (34-22) 8, Binghamton Mets (29-28, -7.0) 3 (7 innings)

Rain cut this one short in Harrisburg, halting the B-Mets winning streak at five.  However, the rain couldn’t stop 1B Mike Carp, who had time to single twice and draw a walk.  RF Ambiorix Concpecion was 2-4 with a double and one of the Mets RBI.

The Senators ripped Eric Brown (2-5, 6.79) for eight runs on ten hits in four innings.

Tuesday, Emmanuel Garcia was placed on the Temporarily Inactive list while Matt Smith, a Rangers castoff, was promoted from extended spring training.

St. Lucie (A+ - Florida State League)

@ St. Lucie Mets (13-45, -24.0) 5, Brevard County Manatees (30-28) 4

J.R. Voyles three run homer in the bottom of the second gave the Mets a 3-2 lead, and put the team out in front for good.  Dylan Owen (3-4, 3.51) protected that lead for the first 6.1 innings.  He gave up four runs (eh) on ten hits (uh-oh) without walking a batter (good), fanning six (good).  Clearly, he was getting beat in the strike zone.  Emary Frederick struck out five of the eight batters he faced over 2.2 perfect innings to close out the game and nab his second save.  Ruben Tejada (.217/.280/.276) helped out with a pair of hits a run and an RBI.

Savannah (A – South Atlantic League)

Savannah Sand Gnats (26-32, -14.5) 7, @ Columbus Catfish (20-38) 4

Five of the first nine Gnats hitters in the top of the first inning homered.  2B Greg Veloz led off with a jack which was followed by Michael Parker as the two went back-to-back.  One out later Jared Abruzzo left the yard.  With two outs Francisco Pena left the yard.  After a single and a walk, Matt Bouchard drilled a three-run shot to put the Gnats up 7-0.

Scott Moviel (4-7, 6.05) had to enjoy his seven run lead even before he threw  a pitch.  Moviel gave up three runs on five hits.  Brant Rustich bounced a wild pitch in the seventh.  Rustich walked two.

The Catfish have lost 12 games in a row.
