Rehabbing in St. Lucie, Ramon Castro was 1-3 with a double, walk, RBI and run scored.  He left Wednesday’s game early, but Thursday night caught seven innings.

Stars of the Day:

AAA: Jesus Feliciano/Tony Armas

AA: Mike Carp & Nick Evans

A+: Ezequiel Carrera/Dylan Owen

A: Jared Abruzzo & Greg Veloz

New Orleans (AAA – Pacific Coast League)

@ Tacoma Rainiers (14-12) 3, New Orleans Zephyrs (16-11, -1.5) 2

Tony Armas pitched well, but gave up the decisive two-run homer to Tacoma’s Jeremy Reed in the sixth inning.  In seven innings, Armas (1-2, 2.78) gave up just four hits, and struck out four.

Both Zephyrs runs, one in the seventh and one in the ninth, scored on wild pitches by Tacoma hurlers.  Jesus Feliciano was 2-4 and the first Zephyr run.  The game ended in the ninth, with the tying run at second and the go-ahead run at first.

Binghamton (AA - Eastern League)

New Britain Rock Cats (13-12) 7, @ Binghamton Mets (10-17, -7.5) 4

The B-Mets dropped their sixth game in a row.  Only the middle of the lineup held up their end of the deal.  1B Nick Evans (.323/.367/.576 in 99 AB) was 2-3 with a double and a walk while DH Mike Carp (.365/.407/.606 in 104 AB) was 2-3 with a walk as well.

Jose Sanchez (2-2, 5.52) gave up four runs in just 4.1.  Eddie Kunz was the only B-Met pitcher not to give up a run.

St. Lucie (A+ - Florida State League)

St. Lucie Mets (6-21, -12.0) 7, @ Daytona (14-13) 3

The Mets scored three times in the top of the first for Dylan Owen who made it stand up for his second win of the year.  Dylan (2-3, 4.26) gave up two runs on seven hits in five innings, fanning six and walking out.   Tim Stronach worked around four hits to toss three scoreless.

In the first, Ezequiel Carrera, Lucas Duda and Ramon Castro all doubled and scored.  The 20-year old Carrera, who was 3-5, has hit safely in nine of his last ten contests to lift his season line to .272/.346/.421 in 114 AB.  1B Josh Thole was 2-4 with a two run homer and 3 RBI overall.  Josh Petersen, recently returned from Binghamton, was 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBI.  I think it shows impressive mental toughness for a player to have a good game in his first game with a new team, especially after moving down the ladder.

Savannah (A – South Atlantic League)

Hickory Crawdads (15-13) 6, @ Savannah Sand Gnats (9-18, -11.0) 5

Despite being out hit 14-6, the Gnats buzzed the Crawdads for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.  However, the ‘Dads scored a run off Josh Stinson, who had thrown three scoreless innings from the 5-7th, in the top of the 8th.  Wendy Rosa tossed two scoreless innings behind Stinson, fanning two and walking one.

DH Jared Abruzzo was the hitting star: 2-4, with two doubles and three RBI.  2B Greg Veloz was 2-4 from the leadoff spot.
