Fernando Martinez is done for the season Binghamton manager Mako Oliveras told the Press & Sun-Bulletin.
I can celebrate Barry Bonds by writing about the Mets. Mike Bacsik, now a part of baseball history, was a Met briefly. He was traded to the Mets on December 11, 2001 with Roberto Alomar and Danny Peoples for OF Matt Lawton, OF Alex Escobar, RHP Jerrod Riggan and then later LHP Billy Traber and 1B Earl Snyder to complete the trade in December. The Mets released Bacsik following a 2003 spent with both New York, where he was 1-2 with a 10.19 ERA in five appearances for New York and was 2-9 with a 4.97 ERA in 22 games, 21 starts at AAA.
Why was the guy who caught #756 wearing not one Mets jersey, but two?

AAA – New Orleans
(Pacific Coast League)

Fresno Grizzlies (61-57) 2, Zephyrs (62-55) 1
Both #2 hitters, Fernando Tatis for the Zs and Luis Figueroa for the Grizz, hit home runs in the first inning, and that was it for offense all night. The only difference was that Figueroa had a man on base for his jack. Tatis now has six home runs in his last 10 contests.
Mike Pelfrey was strong according to eye-witness reports for six innings, fanning five and walking one. He was working at 93-94 with the fastball, but that matters much less to me than the development of his slider.

Mets (49-64) 11, Trenton (66-48) 2 (6 innings)
As he did on Sunday, Brett Harper (.302/.356/.519) launched two home runs Tuesday. He was 3-4 with 6 RBI. Harper’s 20 jacks are the most by a B-Met since Mike Jacobs drilled 25 in 2005. Mike Carp helped out going 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Sal Aguilar allowed just one earned run in 6.1 innings fanning one before the rains finished the game early.
A+ -- St. Lucie (
@ Mets (21-22/52-61) 3, Lakeland (17-25/46-66) 2
Down a run in the bottom of the ninth, Emmanuel Garcia began the rally with a double before Ender Chavez drew a bases loaded walk to force home the winning run sending St. Lucie to their seventh straight victory. Garcia was 2-4 with a double and Ambio Concepcion added two doubles of his own.
Jon Niese had his third strong outing in a row, allowing just a solo home run among five hits in seven innings. He whiffed a season-high nine batters and walked one. In his last 19 innings, he has a a 1.42 ERA (3 ER/19 IP) and a .162 opponents’ batting average (11 H/68 AB)

With the game tied at 7-7 in the ninth, Tyler Vaughn doubled and then scored on a wild pitch. Vaughn was 2-4 and homered, his first as a pro, and is now hitting .417 (5-12) in his four games as a professional. At 22, coming out of college, he’s old for the Appy League. Later, Jose Jimenez (.324/.389/.532 – age 20) tripled home Daniel Stegall for an insurance run. Jimenez was 3-4 with a double, triple and two RBI. Nicholas Giarraputo (.306/.335/.400 – age 19) added two hits.
