Once again, Pedro took the hill, and once again, he seems happy with his rehab progress.  Monday, he tossed six innings, allowing just one unearned whiffing four Cardinals.  Every paper has a slightly different story, but the news is that he had a better feel for his cutter and changeup and he’ll need another start (Times, Post, Daily News, Record).  It’s not clear from the stories whether any of the authors actually saw Pedro throw firsthand, so I’d be inclined to think they all wrote their stories from New York or Philadelphia.

Carlos Gomez also began a rehab assignment in St. Lucie, going 0-3.

Arizona Fall League rosters came out Monday, but the Mets spots – 4 pitchers, a catcher, an infielder, and an outfielder - on the Scottsdale Scopions are all listed as TBA.

Baseball America put Deolis Guerra at #4 on their Hot Sheet this week and Pedro and Mark Mulder’s FSL rehab assignments in their “blast from the past” section.

A: Francisco Pena & Josh Thole

SSA: Dillon Gee

R-App: Off

R-GCL: Season’s Over

AAA – New Orleans (Pacific Coast League)

Zephyrs (69-68) 8, @ Oklahoma RedHawks (69-67) 3

Philip Humber improved the Zephyrs fading playoff hopes with another fine performance.  He allowed just one unearned run in five innings, giving up two hits and a walk, while fanning four.  Interestingly, one start after throwing 123 pitches, he was held to 58 in leaving with an 8-1 lead.

Humber had such a lead because the Zephyrs were busy hitting home runs off Rangers’ right-handed prospect Eric Hurley.  Robinson Cancel hit a solo shot in the second, while Jason Alfaro, Fernando Tatis and Andy Tracy all hit home runs in a five-run fourth.  Tatis was 2-4.

Out of the ‘pen, Jon Adkins allowed an unearned run, while Ivan Maldonado scooped up two strikeouts for his only two outs.

New Orleans is two games out behind Albuquerqued for first, and half a game behind Oklahoma for second.

AA – Binghamton (Eastern League)

@ Mets 6, New Britain Rock Cats 5

New Britain Rock Cats (62-70) 6, @ Mets (58-75) 2

Miguel Negron walked to force in the winning run in game one.  Negron finished 2-2, with two doubles, three walks, three runs scored and three RBI.   On the hill, starter Sal Aguilar allowed five runs in six innings, while Brandon Nall vultured the victory for a scoreless top of the seventh.

Brett Harper (.302/.357/.507) was 3-3 with a jack in the nightcap.  Neither spot-starter Robert Paulk, nor reliever Marcelo Perez was particularly effective.

Per Brian Moritz in the Press & Sun-Bulletin: “Before the game, Raul Valdes was placed on the disabled list with a sore shoulder. Marcelo Perez, who was on the disabled list with a sprained right ankle, was activated from the DL and pitched 3 1/3 innings.”

A+ -- St. Lucie (Florida State League)

@ Palm Beach Cardinals (32-33/68-67) 3, Mets (34-29/65-68) 1

Pedro’s full line: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.  Joe Hietpas gave up two runs in the seventh as the Mets were four-hit.

The Mets are two and a half games up on Brevard County and three on the Cardinals.

A St. Lucie release suggested that Hector Pellot had joined the team, while the Savannah communication said he was going to Kingsport.  He didn’t play anywhere Monday.

A – Savannah (South Atlantic League)

@ Columbus Catfish (39-23/80-52) 5, Sand Gnats (20-42/40-92) 3

SSA – Brooklyn (New York-Penn League)

Cyclones (41-20) 7, @ Vermont Lake Monsters (33-31) 6

Dillon Gee began the game with 5.2 scoreless innings, yielding just four hits while fanning seven.  However, the normally lights out Cyclones pen nearly gave away a 5-0 lead.  Dan McDonald was responsible for two runs in an inning.  Eddie Kunz gave up four runs in just .2 of an inning on two hits and two walks.  Brant Rustich worked a scoreless ninth with a walk and a strikeout for his second NYP League save.

Micah Schilling, Lucas Duda, Raul Reyes and Joaquin Rodriguez each had two hits.  Rodriguez (.262/.360/.295 – age 22) playing first, walked twice and scored two.
