We bussed down to Oklahoma City Thursday, and broke out three movies I hadn’t seen.  In chronological order from our departure: Casino Royale – naptime, 300 – boring, but, in a twisted way, visually beautiful and The Departed – straight up brilliant.

Zephyrs

Off.  Travel Day.

AA – Binghamton (Eastern League)

Trenton Thunder (67-49) 8, @ Mets (50-65) 0

The Thunder avoided a sweep by pounding Jose Sanchez for eight runs, three earned in five innings while the B-Mets committed four errors behind him.  This game was called in the ninth due to rain.

Mark Kiger reached base in all four of his plate appearances, going 2-2 with two walks, while Mike Carp was 2-4.

Ben Harrison was 0-3 and committed three errors.

A+ -- St. Lucie (Florida State League)

Mets (22-23/53-62) 7, @ Sarasota Reds (26-22/69-49) 5

Daniel Murphy (.295/.341/.449) was 3-4 and scored the go-ahead run in a two-run Mets ninth on a throwing error by the Reds’ reliever.  Emmanuel Garcia and Ambio Concepcion each had a couple knocks with Concepcion driving in two runs.

Tobi Stoner allowed four runs on ten hits in 4.1 innings.

A – Savannah (South Atlantic League)

Sand Gnats (15-30/35-80) 6, @ West Virginia Power (20-27/68-47) 4

Every Gnat starter had a hit and three different Gnats had multi-hit games in a 15-hit night in which Savannah overcame an early 3-0 deficit.  Francisco Pena (.216/.272/.294) was 2-5 and hit his fifth home run of the year and his first since July 16th.  Joe Holden was also 2-5 with a bomb, his fourth of the year, but the hit leader was Hector Pellot (.275/.347/.379), who was 3-5 with two runs scored from the leadoff spot.

Jonathan Castillo improved to 4-3 with a 4.02 ERA by yielding three runs on five hits in six innings, fanning four.

SSA – Brooklyn (New York-Penn League)

Cyclones @ Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Cancelled due to rain and not scheduled to be made up.

SSA – Kingsport (Appalachian League)

@ Danville Braves (34-12) 5, Mets (26-20) 3

Michael Parker (.329/.419/.479 – 22 yo), this year’s 24th rounder from George Washington was 3-5.  Batting right behind him, Daniel Stegall was 2-4.

Roy Merritt a lefthander drafted out of Southern U A&M in the 29th round struck out six batters in 3.2 innings, or one more than he’d fanned in his first 12.2 frames.

R – St. Lucie (Gulf Coast League)

@ GCL Dodgers (29-13) 7, Mets (14-26) 6

Yes, that’s Ambiorix Burgos starting and inducing two groundouts and a flyout in a perfect first inning.  That’s good.

We could talk about the Dodgers two runs in the ninth for the walkoff win, but I’d rather not to focus on some interesting young hitters.

Ruben Tejeda (.293/.373/.413)was 3-4 with a triple and RBI. The shortstop will turn 18 on September 1 and began the year in the VSL where he hit .364/.466/.479.  Ezequiel Carrera was 2-4 with a walk and three runs scored at the top of the order with his 10th and 11th steals of the season.  Rightfielder Gabriel Zavala extended his hitting streak to six games with a 2-4, 2 RBI game.  Second baseman Ernesto Gonzalez doubled twice.
