Norfolk (AAA - International League)

@ Norfolk 5, Toledo 1

 

            Evan MacLane had his best outing in a month firing off seven and a third solid innings with six strikeouts.  He allowed just one run on three hits and three walks. 

            Edgardo Alfonzo drilled a homerun and drove home three in a 2-4 night in support of MacLane.  The only other Tide with two hit was Tagg Bozied who was 2-3 with a solo HR and two runs scored. 

            Catcher Yunir Garcia started his first game for Norfolk, after one pinch hitting appearance, and was 1-3. 

 

Binghamton (AA - Eastern League)

@ Bowie 5, Binghamton 4

 

           

            The Baysox came from behind, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, two against Matt Lindstrom in .1 of an inning.  The final run came against Henry Owens, who took his second AA loss.  Michael Devaney turned in a solid start allowing two runs, one earned in five innings.  He gave up six hits and walked four. 

            Jorge Padilla doubled twice in a 2-4 performance with two runs scored.  Chase Lambin launched a solo HR as well.

 

St. Lucie (A+ - Florida State League)

@ St. Lucie 6, Vero Beach 3

 

            Caleb Stewart won this game with a three run HR in the bottom of the ninth for St. Lucie.  With two outs and the bases empty, Mike Carp was hit by a pitch and then Jesus Flores singled to chase the Vero reliever.  Stewart greeted Zachary Hammes with the game winning long ball.  Stewart also doubled and scored twice in a 2-5 night.  Carp, in addition to starting the ninth inning rally doubled and drove home a run. 

            On the hill, Sal Aguilar turned in a nice start, allowing two runs in seven innings.  He struck out two and walked two.  Carlos Muniz blew the save in the ninth by giving up a run, but Stewart’s blast made him a winner. 

 

Hagerstown (A – South Atlantic League)

Greensboro 3, @ Hagerstown 0

 

            The Grasshoppers held the Suns to five hits, making Deolis Guerra a tough-luck loser.  Guerra (5-7) allowed just one run in his five innings on two hits.  He walked three and struck out three, lowering his ERA to 2.35.  The ‘Hoppers scored two unearned runs late against closer Kevin Tomasiewicz.  

            Centerfielder Sean Henry, who was converted from SS this year, and promoted this week from Kingsport, was 2-3 with two doubles. 

           

 

Brooklyn (SSA – New York Penn League)

Brooklyn 5, @ Lowell

 

            Tobi Stoner was masterful over seven shutout innings.  He allowed just two hits and didn’t walk a batter while striking out six.  Stoner has thrown at least five innings in every start this year and has dealt at last six in five of his last six outings. 

            Dustin Martin led the Cyclones with three hits, all singles.  Ivan Narrarata added two in a 2-4 evening
