Lets start with some weekly awards.  Minor League Baseball named Miguel Pinago (Eastern League) and Jon Niese (South Atlantic League) as their league’s  pitcher of the week.  Baseball America put Fernando Martinez at #3 on their Hot Sheet this week.

On the field, Norfolk set a record that they didn’t want, while Binghamton set a good record.

            Philip Humber rolled again, too.

Norfolk (AAA - International League)

@ Ottowa 15, Norfolk 5

The Lynx set a franchise record with a 12 run bottom of the eighth inning against Anderson Garcia, Royce Ring and Steve Schmoll.  The 12 runs the Tides allowed were the most in franchise history, breaking their previous mark of 11 set back in 1989.

Chris Basak led the Tides with a 3-4 afternoon.  Lastings Milledge was 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI.  Rueben Gotay was 2-4 with a run scored.

Binghamton (AA - Eastern League)

@ Binghamton 7, New Hampshire 5

Michael Devaney struck out ten in five innings for his second win in AA.    He gave up four runs on seven hits, two of which were longballs.  Henry Owens allowed a run, but picked up his fourteenth AA save.

Jorge Padilla (.294/.366/.420) was 4-5 with four singles.  Carlos Gomez (.274/.334/.428) ran his hit streak to 17 games with a 3-5 game with a double, triples and 3 RBI.  Corey Ragsdale (.199/.268/.323) drilled a solo homer in a 2-4.  Michel Abreu (.339/.399/.532) added a 3-5 night with a double.

The B-Mets hurlers set a franchise record with 19 strikeouts.

St. Lucie (A+ - Florida State League)

@ St. Lucie 3, Sarasota 2

I’m warning you, Philip Humber is dominating the FSL.  He gave up just two hits and one run, on a solo HR in the first, in his seven innings while punching out four batters while walking two.  In his last 18 innings, he’s given up one earned run on nine hits while striking out 15 and walking just four.  He’s 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50!

Mike Carp’s solo HR his ninth of the year tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth.  He’s at .283/.382/.422 as a 20-year-old.  Corey Coles’ 2-run double in the fifth put the Mets ahead.  Coles (.340/.405/.426), 2-4 was the only St. Lucie hitter with more than one hit.

Hagerstown (A – South Atlantic League)

@ Hagerstown 13, Kannapolis 1

The Suns set a new season high in runs scored by demolishing the Intimidators.  Deolis Guerra enjoyed the run support, limiting Kannapolis to one first inning run in his five frames.  He struck out two, and didn’t walk a batter.

Jesus Gamero was ridiculous offenseively: 4-4 with a double, HR, and 4 RBI.  Will Vogl added a couple of his and two RBI.  Jose Castro was 2-4 with 3 runs scored.
