In Portland, ME, Miguel Pinago threw the Eastern League’s first no-no of the year, and barely missed out on a perfecto.

I knew it was beyond hot when I was biking to work today at noon, and the worst heat wasn’t coming from the sun above, but was coming up from the blacktop beneath me.  People aren’t leaving their houses in the Central Valley, and the locals who do go out, say they can’t remember this kind of extended heat wave.  Our official gametime temperature at Recreation Park at 5:05 was 104 degrees.  Yesterday, we blew out fuses all over the ballpark knocking out power in our office, the concessions stand, and both clubhouses.

Norfolk (AAA - International League)

@ Ottowa 8, Norfolk 6

The Lynx clawed Evan MacLane for seven runs, three earned on 13 hits in five innings.  Hmm…Royce Ring was perfect in the ninth.

Michael Tucker and Jose Offerman were the only Tides with two hits.

Binghamton (AA - Eastern League)

Binghamton 9, @ Portland 6

Binghamton 7, @ Portland 0

In game two, the story was Miguel Pinago’s no-hitter.  He took a perfect game into the seventh, which SS Corey Ragsdale’s throwing error broke up.  Still, Pinago struck out seven, and didn’t walk a batter while dealing the fifth no-hitter in Binghamton’s history and first since Bob Keppel’s in 2003.  The B-Mets offense came alive with a six-run third inning.  Jay Caligiuri, who was 2-4, drilled a grand slam that was enough for four of the runs.  Michel Abreu added two hits and a double.

The B-Mets launched four HR in game one of the twinbill.  Abreu drove home four with a pair of two run shots, while Corey Ragsdale added a three run shot in the sixth, and Mike DiFelice added a solo bomb.

Carlos Gomez ran his hit streak to 16 straight games with a 1-3 in both games Sunday, raising his season average to .268/.330/.415

St. Lucie (A+ - Florida State League)

Sarasota 7, @ St. Lucie 5

Sarasota 4, @ St. Lucie 2

Alhaji Turay was a perfect 3-3 at the plate in game one with a double and a longball, while driving home three of the Mets five runs.  The Reds got to Jose Sanchez for seven runs in four innings.

Mike Carp, 2-3 with a bomb, was the only Met to have more than one hit in the nightcap.  Travis Hope was responsible for three runs in three innings on his way to his first loss for the Floridians.

Hagerstown (A – South Atlantic League)

Hagerstown

Off.  Eight game homestand begins Monday.

Taking Sunday off isn’t as crazy as it sounds.  Minor league teams struggle on Sunday afternoons, and without checking the numbers, I think we do better on Mondays than on Sundays, making Sunday the slowest day of the week.

Brooklyn (SSA – New York Penn League)

@ Brooklyn 4, Jamestown 3

Jamestown 12, @ Brooklyn 1

In game one, Jacob Ruckle dealt 6.1 two-run innings.  He struck out four and walked one to lower his NYP ERA to 2.41.  Dustin Martin led the Cyclones offense with a 2-3 including a two-run HR.  Daniel Cummins added two singles from the DH spot.

Joe Holden’s solo HR in the third inning was the only happy thing to happen in game two when the Cyclones had as many errors as hits (3 each).

Kingsport Mets (R – Appalachian League)

@ Burlington Indians 8, Kingsport Mets 7

Kingsport Mets 4, @ Burlington Indians 3

Sean Henry’s solo HR in the ninth was the winning run in game two.    Henry was 3-5 with a 2B and HR and 2 runs scored.  DJ Wabick added a 3-5 as well wit ha double.

It took ten innings to decide yesterday’s game which they finished up today.  Sean Henry homered in this game, back on Saturday.

GCL Mets (R – Gulf Coast League)

GCL Mets
