Draft Day.  With the Mets sitting out until pick 62, I felt left out of the action.  Some teams were on their third pick already before the Mets got going.  I have no independent opinions about any of the guys the Mets chose today, aside from the largely fictitious scouting reports one might read on BA or MLB.com.

Congratulations to Jon Niese (7-3, 4.08) and Fernando Martinez (322/.391/.492) who were named to the SAL All-Star team Tuesday.  Martinez hasn’t played since May 9th, but is expected back before the game on June 20th.  The 17 year old is to quote the Suns press release the:  “youngest [Suns] player ever to receive All-Star honors as well as the youngest player ever to have been named an All-Star in the South Atlantic League.”

Stars of the Day:

AAA: Jose Offerman

AA: Ray Navarette

A+: Ambion Concepcion/Marcelo Perez

A: Drew Butera

Norfolk 3, Syracuse 10

The SkyChiefs roughed up rehabbing John Maine for six runs on eight hits in four innings including a five run second.

Jose Offerman (2-3, BB) was the only Tide with multiple hits.

Binghamton 3, Reading 4

Michel Abreu led the Mets attack with a 3-3 night that included a double and a walk.  Ray Navarette added a double and a HR in a 2-4 evening.

Miguel Perez delivered a decent start, working in and out of trouble.  He gave up three runs, two earned on eight hits and two walks in six innings.

St. Lucie 4, Palm Beach 3 (12 innings)

Ambio Concepcion singled to begin the bottom of the twelth and then stole second and third.  After Palm Beach loaded the bases by walking Mike Carp and Jesus Flores, Enrique Cruz drove home the winning run by getting hit by a pitch.  Seriously.

Mayque Quintero delivered a strong six inning start.  He gave up one run on six hits, but fanned five.  Marcelo Perez, 25, turned in his longest outing of the year for St. Lucie and dealt 3.1 scoreless, one hit innings.  He dropped his ERA to 0.87 in 10.1 FSL innings.  He’s walked five, and struck out nine, including four punchouts on Tuesday.

Hagerstown 4, @ West Virginia 6

The Suns rallied for a run in the eighth and two in the ninth on a Drew Butera HR, but by then it was too late to catch the Power.  Butera (2-4, HR, 2 RBI) was the only Sun who had more than one hit.

Jim Wladyka went three innings in relief of Waner Mateo and allowed just one unearned run to drop his ERA below 4.
